Log Cabin SnugglerThis workshop introduces you to Marti Michell’s wonderful log cabin rulers.  You will quickly learn why a ruler makes this simple block easier – all the blocks are the same size and square without trimming not to mention how quickly they sew up!!  The project is a lap/crib size quilt and you’ll love the practical tips on cutting and organizing the pieces for sewing.  Ruler and book purchase necessary ($34).

Monday, February 6, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Cottonpickers in Chardon, Ohio -- call 440-279 0610 to register.

Economy Quilts: String Piecing --   String piecing was embraced by mid-20th century quilters as a way to use leftovers from their household sewing and have some fun!  Students will create a set of large diamond units using an assortment of strips.  The diamonds will be set together in an eight-pointed star that can then become the central focus of a medallion style quilt on their own after the workshop or expanded into a larger piece.  An optional point trimmer tool is available for purchase in the class for $4

Friday & Saturday, February 17 & 18, 2012, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., $60 at the Farmpark in Kirtland, Ohio -- to register, call 800-669-9226 today!!

Better Bindings!  As a result of entering quilt shows over the past 10 years, I've learned how to do an excellent basic binding.  Bring along a quilted sandwich for practice and the last quilt you bound.  I'll review all the basics and share tips on how to achieve excellent corners and an invisible finish!  You need to attend this workshop before you finish another quilt!

Saturday, Feburary 24, 9:30 to noon, Cottonpickers in Chardon, call 440-279-0610 to register.

Rolling Kites: Big Blocks, Fast Results!  Busy quilters enjoy piecing that goes quickly, especially when they are making a quilt for someone else.  The 17" rolling kites block presents an excellent prospect and offers an interesting piecing challenge of set-in corners and meshing multiple seams for a flat center.  It is also a block that handles the large scale prints that are currently popular.  Skills taught include accurate rotary cutting, consistent 1/4" seam piecing and set-in piecing.  (I have a limited number of fabric kits available for this workshop).  Marti Michell's multi-size kite ruler is required and will be available during the class for $14.  Note -- if you took my Bride's Bouquet workshop last year, you already own the tool!

MISSISSIPPI MUD IS BACK!!  I can't remember the last time I taught this!  It's the first quilt I "designed" and it has been popular ever since.  Simple snowball corners and a couple of design tricks are the secrets to this great quilt.  It was named “mud” by her students because it uses lots and lots of prints – even the “uglies” can be hidden in this quilt!  Make it with all those Bali’s or 30’s prints or Civil War prints that you have stashed – any category works well!  You will learn ways to streamline your piecing and pressing to increase accuracy that can be applied to any quilt block.

Saturday, March 31, 10 to 2:30, Cottonpickers in Chardon, Ohio -- call 440-279-0610 to register.
