Try Big Stitch Quilting!
I've found this relaxed approach to hand quilting to be a great strategy for finishing some of
my UFQ's. It is done with pearl cotton and I think it is particularly suited to whimsical and casual style
quilts! Bring a layered quilt, 14" to 18" hoop, needles, and pearl cotton for a relaxing evening on the front
porch and get started!! Working for 30 minutes a day will have that quilt finished before you know it! We'll also
talk about design ideas for the quilting. Monday, August
30, 6:30 p.m. $10
Single Arc Double Wedding Ring is both an excellent
way to learn the ins and out of piecing this popular traditional quilt and provides a wonderful showcase for a beautiful print!
After trying 3 different patterns for this wonderful traditional quilt from the 1920’s, I’ve settled on Marti
Michell’s Double Wedding Ring template set as the best! Cutting the pieces with rotary templates is the most accurate.
The pattern is perfectly drafted and her instructions make the piecing hassle-free!! In this workshop,
you’ll cut and piece together a 2 by 2 section of the quilt. Then you are ready to expand it to suit your needs! Template
set is $38 and available at the shop. Tuesday, September 14, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., $35

New Workshop!! The Bride’s Bouquet is an appealing block and now it’s a simpler block
to piece thanks to Marti Michell’s new Multi-sized Kite Tool – no matter whether you chose to do a 12” block
or a 6” block. If you have the October issue of American Patchwork & Quilting, you'll find a full size
quilt Marti designed using this tool featured. Join me at The Calico Cat in Lakewood, NY (on the western shore
of Lake Chautauqua) to learn the basics of piecing this block. You decide the size block and the size quilt!
The Kite Tool is $13 and Set E ($23) or the 2½ Stripper Set ($14) is also needed. Saturday, October 23, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Calico Cat, Lakewood, NY Call (716) 763-8167
