SEASONAL MEDALLION
A Medallion for All Seasons is a versatile design that allows you to adapt it to many themes. This
version is January Blues and was customized for a winter retreat where I taught in 2008. The finished piece
is 57” square so it can serve as a wallhanging or lap robe. By changing the color scheme and the
theme of the four center blocks, you can create your personal version. The four center blocks could just
as easily be pieced 6” blocks; or fussy cut blocks from a conversation/novelty print or preprinted panels; or a series
of machine embroidery designs or hand wrought redwork blocks; or a set of appliqué motifs. The quilt’s
color scheme could celebrate other seasons of the year. For the retirement of your best friend or
a special niece’s wedding, use a light solid color for the large triangles of the flying geese units in the first border
to create signature areas. Using a light solid color fabric for the light strips in the log cabin blocks
will provide an excellent space to show off your best quilting or appliqué. The width of the final
border can be adjusted to accommodate an outstanding fabric that you use to establish the color theme for the quilt.
The possibilities for this pattern are many! Click on
